Overview
The Objective progress color bar in Nexl provides a visual indicator of how your objectives are tracking against their expected progress. This system helps users quickly understand whether an objective is ahead, on track, or behind schedule, based on the latest check-in data.
This article explains how the color logic works, what each color means, and how progress is calculated.
How Progress Color is Determined
The color of the progress bar is based on a comparison between your actual progress and the expected progress as of the Latest Check In Date. The calculation considers:
Target Value: The goal you want to achieve.
Start and Target Dates: The timeline for your objective.
Latest Check In Date: The most recent date you recorded progress.
Calculation Logic
Expected Progress is calculated based on the proportion of time elapsed between the start and target dates.
Actual Progress is your current progress as of the latest check-in.
Color Mapping
Green ("Ahead of schedule"): Progress is more than 10% above the expected value as of the latest check-in date.
Blue ("On track"): Progress is within 10% (plus or minus) of the expected value as of the latest check-in date.
Yellow/Orange ("Behind schedule"): Progress is more than 10% below the expected value as of the latest check-in date.
Grey: Used for objectives that have not started or where color logic does not apply (e.g., no check-ins).
Tooltip Explanations
When you hover over the progress bar, a tooltip explains the meaning of the color:
Ahead of schedule
“Ahead of schedule — progress is more than 10% above the expected value as of latest check in date.”On track
“On track — progress is within 10% of the expected value as of latest check in date.”Behind schedule
“Behind schedule — progress is more than 10% below the expected value as of latest check in date.”
Special Case: 100% Completion
If the objective is at 100%, the tooltip changes to reflect completion timing:
Green (100%):
“Objective completed ahead of schedule — progress reached target earlier than expected.”Blue (100%):
“Objective completed on time.”Yellow (100%):
“Objective completed after the target date — final progress reached target, but behind schedule.”
Where You See These Colors
Objective Cards: On the main objectives page and in lists.
Create and View Objective Modals: Tooltips are available next to the "Measure" field.
Objective Slider: Shows the color bar, tooltip, and additional info such as the Latest Check In Date and Target Date.
Important Notes
The color reflects the status as of the latest check-in, not automatically as time passes. If you do not log a new check-in, the color will not update and will remain grey
Changing the initial or target values after creating an objective can affect the color calculation.
If no progress has been recorded, or if the initial value is greater than zero but no check-in exists, the color indicator may not apply.
Example
Suppose your objective is to reach 100 sales by March 31. If, by March 15 (halfway), you have 60 sales, but the expected progress is 50, you are ahead of schedule (green). If you have 45, you are on track (blue). If you have 35, you are behind schedule (yellow).
